Director of the "Belgrade Metro and Train" PUK Andreja Mladenović stated that the subway in the city of Guangzhou is one of the most organized and functional subways in China and added that more than 3.2 billion passengers use it annually, as well as that their experience will be extremely important for the construction of the subway in Belgrade. As it was said at the meeting, the subway in Guangzhou alone is more than 750 kilometers long, while the intercity lines cover 338 kilometers. Work on the subway in the city of Guangzhou was done with the help of TBM machines, i.e. "mole machines", which will arrive in Serbia in the second half of 2026 for the construction of the subway in Belgrade.
The delegation of the "Belgrade Metro and Train" PUC met today with the company "Guangzhou Metro" in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, and on that occasion they got to know the development plans and achievements of this company. On this occasion, Mladenović pointed out that reliable partners, such as "Guangzhou Metro", are extremely important for the subway project in Belgrade.
Mladenović, after visiting the subway in the city of Guangzhou, told Tanjug that he had the opportunity to see their operational center where they manage 19 subway lines, and that cooperation with that company is extremely important for the Belgrade Metro project.
"They are both the operator and the representative of the city that manages the metro, and they also have a design department. Cooperation with Guangzhou Metro has been going on for more than a year and their experts are present in Belgrade, together with PowerChina, and are working on the design of our stations and tunnels," he added.
As he stated, the company "Guangzhou Metro" is a good example for the whole of China and he added that they are present in many countries, and their experience will be very significant for Belgrade. Mladenović emphasized that the city of Guangzhou had only three million inhabitants 20 years ago, and today it has more than 20, so without the subway, as he said, life in this city would be almost impossible.
Mu Venćin, a citizen from that city, told Tanjug ug that she uses the metro every day, mostly lines 3, 2 and 4, and thinks that it is a very good means of transportation. "You can get from the station to the station in two to three minutes, and for the same route even 20 minutes by car. Transportation by metro saves time, and the tickets are very affordable, which is important for us students," she added.
Citizen Chen Taic explained to Tanjug that the metro station is quite large and provides users with a feeling of a modern space. "Today we are in Guangzhou and I think the subway is very good, there is a direct line from Guangzhou to Foshan and the ride takes about 40 minutes, it is easy to get there," she said. As he says, tickets are cheap and students pay only half price.
Lan Jilin told Tanjug that she uses the subway lines every day and added that the subway moves at a high speed. "It is a means of transportation that I am very happy to use," she added.
At the end of today's visit, the delegation of PUK "Belgrade Metro and Train" Belgrade also visited the training center of the company "Guangzhou Metro". As part of her official visit to China, she also visited the production facilities of the Chinese Railway Construction Heavy Industry (CRCHI) company, responsible for the production of TBM (TBM - Tunnel Boring Machine) for the needs of the Belgrade metro. These machines, also known as "moles", are key to tunnel excavation and represent one of the most significant investments in modern technology within the project. Both TBMs will be delivered to Belgrade in the second half of 2026, which will begin the most demanding and important phase of the metro construction. This segment of the visit is particularly significant because PUC "Belgrade Metro and Train" will get acquainted with the complete methodology, details and procedures of machine manufacturing, on the spot.
