The delegation of JKP "Belgrade Metro and Train" Belgrade, led by coordinators Goran Mandić and Mirko Vranešević, stayed from November 17 to 21, 2025 in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, at the invitation of Guangzhou Metro Group. The visit was carried out on the occasion of participation in the Guangzhou International Rail Transit Exhibition 2025, and the program included a series of technical visits, working sessions and bilateral meetings with the hosts.
During the stay, the delegation participated in expert presentations, where representatives of Guangzhou Metro Group presented the design methodology, capacity management and integration of different types of public transport within one of the most complex metro systems in the world. Special attention was paid to issues of sustainable development, energy efficiency and system performance optimization, as topics of key importance for the development of the Belgrade metro construction project.
As part of the technical program, the delegation visited several active construction sites, including the Panyu Square station, as an example of the high level of integration of the metro system with other modes of transport. A tour of the Baiyun District Metro project was also carried out, where various stages of construction of tunnels and stations were presented, as well as technical solutions that enable the acceleration of works and optimization of costs. These tours provided valuable insight into the organization of the works, the application of safety standards and the operational regimes of the system.
Of particular importance was the participation of the delegation at the ceremonial opening of the exhibition and the main forum, where the latest trends in the field of rail traffic, digitalization and smart transport solutions were presented. On that occasion, Mirko Vranešević held a presentation of the Belgrade metro construction project, presenting current activities, phased development and plans for the future of the project with a special reference to the importance of the Serbian-Chinese partnership, which represents an important support in the realization of this, but also other strategic projects of importance for the city of Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia. The presentation aroused great interest among international participants and contributed to the promotion of the Belgrade metro construction project on a global level.
As part of the official program, a bilateral meeting was also held with representatives of Guangzhou Metro Group, during which the initiative for drafting a Memorandum of Understanding was presented. The potential memorandum would define cooperation frameworks in the areas of exchange of expertise, technical support and consulting services, which represents an important step towards establishing long-term strategic cooperation with one of the world's leading companies in the field of metro systems.
Experiences gained, contacts established and discussions started on future cooperation represent a solid basis for further development and successful implementation of this capital infrastructure project.
