As part of the strengthening of cooperation with international partners and the exchange of experiences with the world's metropolises, representatives of PUK "Belgrade Metro and Train" Belgrade participated in the International Symposium on Innovative Development of the Metro System, held from October 17 to 19, 2025 in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China.

This prestigious event brought together leading experts, engineers and representatives of metro companies from China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Japan, Georgia and other countries, with the support of the International Tunneling and Underground Association (ITA) and the Chinese Society of Civil Engineers (CCES).

Belgrade presented the progress of the Belgrade Metro project, one of the most important infrastructural undertakings in Serbia, within the third session of the symposium, entitled "International Experiences in the Development of the Metro System". Presentation on the topic "Belgrade metro: current status, key challenges and future directions of development" was held by Milonja Milanović, executive director for infrastructure of PUK "Belgrade metro and train" Belgrade.

On that occasion, Milanović spoke about the importance of the construction of the metro for the improvement of public transport in Belgrade, the planned phases of the project's implementation, as well as the technical and geological challenges faced by the engineering teams. He particularly emphasized the importance of a systematic approach to route planning, the application of modern technologies in tunnel excavation, as well as cooperation with Chinese partners who participate in part of the project activities. Emphasis is placed on the sustainability of the system, energy efficiency and the integration of the metro with other modes of transport in Belgrade, as well as on the importance of the project for the development of Belgrade and the improvement of the quality of life of citizens.

In addition to participating in the conference part, the delegation of PUC "Belgrade Metro and Train" Belgrade was part of the official technical tour program, organized on the last day of the symposium. During the visit, Belgrade Metro representatives visited several key locations of the Shenzhen metro system - Guihua station, Qiaocheng East depot, Gangxia North Hub and Huangmugang station, which represent the most modern examples of connecting technology, functionality and urban development.

The Guihua station stood out as an example of how modern construction can be done quickly and safely thanks to innovative methods and improved work organization. At the Qiaocheng East depot, our representatives had the opportunity to get to know the way in which the rolling stock is taken care of in Shenzhen, through a fully digitalized and automated maintenance system, which shows how the subway is becoming part of the city's smart infrastructure. Gangxia North Hub, also known as the "Eye of Shenzhen", delighted the participants with its size and architectural solution - an imposing underground space that connects five metro lines and is a true symbol of a modern urban hub. Finally, the tour of Huangmugang Station provided an insight into how functionality, design and sustainability can be combined in a modern transport center, which has been awarded as one of the most interesting projects in the world of underground infrastructure due to its innovative solutions.

Representatives of JKP "Belgrade metro and train" Belgrade pointed out that the technical visit was a valuable experience that allowed a direct insight into the ways in which the world's leading cities develop their metro systems, as well as an opportunity to transfer the acquired knowledge to the further implementation of the Belgrade metro project.

By participating in this international event, Belgrade is among the cities that actively follow world trends in the field of public transport and smart technologies. During the bilateral meetings, representatives of the "Belgrade Metro and Train" PUC Belgrade discussed with partners from China and other countries about improving cooperation in the field of digitization, automation and application of modern solutions in metro systems.

The exchange of experiences and the establishment of new partnerships further strengthen the goal of the Belgrade Metro becoming a modern, energy-efficient and sustainable system, which will position Belgrade among the metropolises with the most advanced models of public transport and contribute to the creation of a more comfortable and efficient city to live in.
