In-depth: ongoing projects

Survey of the existing state of the interior, exterior of buildings and structures of the second phase of line 1 and line 2 of the Belgrade metro

The aim of this Study is to analyze the existing state of buildings and structures within the zone of geotechnical influence of the second phase of line 1 and line 2 of the Belgrade metro. Based on the assessment of the existing state of buildings and structures, their inherent sensitivity to the impacts of the construction of tunnel sections, stations and the accompanying metro infrastructure will be determined. The purpose of the analysis is to apply the most up-to-date construction mitigation methods. The main cause of potential damages to buildings and structures is movement in the soil caused by: the passage of the "TBM" machine (Tunnel Boring Machine), underground construction of stations, supporting structures (vertical openings for ventilation and evacuation) and sections in "Cut&Cover", possible changes in the level of underground water during construction, as well as other causes arising from the driving of piles, soil compaction, etc. The objectives of the survey of the existing condition of buildings and structures are as follows:
• Interior and exterior inspection of existing buildings and structures within the GZI (Geotechnical Zone of Influence)
• Checking and assessing the condition of existing buildings and structures within the GZI in order to define their inherent sensitivity concerning soil deformation
• Checking and assessing the condition of existing buildings and structures within the GZI in order to define their inherent sensitivity to vibrations. This Study refers to buildings and structures in a broad sense and includes the following:
- All types of buildings (houses, buildings, skyscrapers, historical monuments, etc.) and their immediate surroundings
- Underground constructions such as ventilation openings, garages, underground pedestrian passages, etc.
- Bridges, viaducts, etc.

Study on geological research for the TBM section from Pančevački most station (excluded) to the end of the first phase of line 1

During the development of the Preliminary Design and the Feasibility Study with the Environmental Impact Assessment Study for Line 1, Phase 2 of Belgrade Metro, a technical-economic analysis showed that the section from the Pančevački most station (excluded) to the end of the first phase of line 1, in the length of 1.2 km, should be built like the other sections of line 1, using the "TBM" machine (Tunnel Boring Machine), instead of the "Cut&Cover" construction technology proposed by the General Design. Thus, it is necessary to conduct field investigations, as well as laboratory geo-mechanical tests of soil and rocks. The goal is to define the condition and properties of the terrain and rock masses. Geotechnical conditions and recommendations for the construction of the future metro line will be defined for the level of the Preliminary Design on the basis of those results.

Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the construction project of the Belgrade Metro Line 1 Phase 1

PUC "Belgrade Metro and Train" has started the procedure of developing an Environmental Impact Assessment Study in the name of the relevant Ministry of Environmental Protection. Line 1 runs in the southwest-northeast direction, on the right bank of the Sava River, from Železnik to Stari grad, then in the direction west-east on the south bank of the Danube to Ada Huja, and then in a north-south direction along the valley bottom that goes up Mirijevski bulevar to the final station "Mirijevo". The total length of the reference route is 21.8 km and includes 21 stations, and their construction is planned in two phases:
Phase 1: Železnik - Makiš - Žarkovo - Bele vode - Trgovačka - Požeška - "Banovo Brdo" Park - Ada Ciganlija - Sajam - Mostar - Savski trg – Trg republike - Skadarlija - Dunav - Pančevački most - Karaburma;
The subject of this environmental impact assessment is phase 1 of metro line 1, whose alignment, stations and shafts are shown in the following illustration. The total length of the alignment planned within phase 1 is 16.7 kilometers and consists of 16 stations.
Current activities related to the Study:
• Request for the scope and content of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study in the Ministry of Environmental Protection was submitted
• Delivery of the Request for the scope and content of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study was announced
